We are builders at heart, and this extends beyond roads and bridges at Heritage Construction + Materials (HC+M). We’re committed to building opportunities and a better future for our employees, their families and our community.
HC+M is proud to be named among the first 25 companies to achieve certification in the Good Wages Initiative of EmployIndy. This honor cements our commitment to provide a living wage of at least $18 an hour, plus healthcare benefits. The opportunity aligns perfectly with our family-owned business’s core values:
At its core, this work is key to creating stability. Families that don’t make a living wage are, at best, living paycheck to paycheck. At worst, they are highly transient. Children’s education and sense of safety can be in constant flux. When life becomes unpredictable, it impacts people’s ability to concentrate on jobs and school work.
In the economy, it exasperates a source of workforce turnover because someone will change jobs for a quarter or fifty cents more an hour because it will eventually pay for shoes for one of their children they can’t afford now. It isn’t about loyalty to a company or workplace conditions but about family and personal survival.
For a state like Indiana, with good wages comes better healthcare, better educational outcomes, lower government subsidies, more opportunity for our people, better workforce stability for companies, and the ability to focus our resources on mobility for the state rather than maintaining a welfare state that limits mobility.
Though the Good Wages Certification originates from Indianapolis, HC+M’s steadfast dedication to investing in people means all our businesses and locations across the Midwest meet the qualifying threshold.
