Heritage Construction + Materials businesses actively participate in recruitment fairs to promote careers in the construction industry. Recently, HC+M’s Talent Acquisition Specialists Justin Richardson and James Miles along with The Heritage Group’s Workforce Development Partner Andy Cassler talked to a group of 170 students in Indianapolis, Indiana during Ben Davis High School’s Area 31 Career Center’s Next Steps event.
The event, hosted by The Heritage Group, gave students from 10 area high schools the opportunity to network with employers and determine their next steps after graduation. HC+M’s Justin Richardson had this to say about the event: “I believe career events are great for brand recognition, connecting with students to place in our internship programs, educating students on the career opportunities we have to offer and networking with educators and career advisors.” The Next Steps event which served students from 11 different school districts was one of many attended by HC+M businesses.
Recently, Doug Haskamp, Emily Mick and Meredith Hughes from HC+M’s Milestone Contractors went into Area 31 classrooms to educate students and Doug Pierce and Allie Komarowski spoke to students about job opportunities at a career fair booth with Area 31.
Allie shared with us that she has been involved in more than a half dozen recruitment events since the start of the year. Most notable was an event in March in support of the Indiana Constructors, Inc. Sandbox program in Northwest Indiana. The program, aimed at instituting a road construction curriculum to be taught in that area’s high school career centers, is spearheaded by ICI’s Eric Fisher. The Porter County Parks Department will be housing the classroom as well as the sandbox area for the program. Since 1924, ICI has been dedicated to advocacy and education in the construction industry.
Komarowski also attended the Greater Lafayette Career Academy event where she and fellow team members Doug Pierce and Justin Richardson had the opportunity to speak one-to-one with students, and even acquire a summer intern as a result of the event.
Other recruitment events attended by Komarowski since the start of the year include HireME! In Lafayette, Indiana, the Penn High School Career Fair, the Purdue Engineers Student Council, C2E Construction Expo, the Purdue School of Construction and Management Technology and two Junior Achievement Career Fairs at Portage and East Chicago Central high schools.
Continued active engagement in career events at the high school level enable HC+M companies to attract the next generation of talent and are instrumental in ensuring the future of our industry remains strong.
