This summer, The Heritage Group welcomed 60 interns across its family of companies, including several within Heritage Construction + Materials (HC+M). Over the course of 12 weeks, these students immersed themselves in hands-on roles, built professional skills and formed lasting connections all while exploring the industries that power The Heritage Group: construction and materials, environmental services and specialty chemicals.
Meet some of the talented interns who worked across HC+M this summer:
The internship program is built around four pillars: company knowledge, professional development, civic leadership and team building, and it includes more than 20 events that bring those pillars to life. Interns toured sites like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to learn about Milestone’s work on the track, volunteered with Random Acts of Flowers and competed in a Super Mario-themed challenge with their mentor teams. They also engaged directly with The Heritage Group leaders covering topics like feedback, career growth and living out company values. Chief Executive Officer Amy Schumacher spoke with interns about the story of The Heritage Group and the valuable lessons that come from failure.
“Our program is intentionally designed to be meaningful, structured and aligned with our values and business goals,” said Lexie Seward, EIC Talent Strategy Manager at The Heritage Group. “This level of access and mentorship is rare and deeply impactful.”
Each intern was paired with a young professional mentor, creating a support system that helped them navigate their roles and accelerate their growth. When the program ends, interns walk away with real-world experience, a stronger professional identity and a network of peers and leaders they can lean on for years to come.
“I hope our interns leave with a clearer sense of purpose, a stronger professional identity and a lasting connection to The Heritage Group. Whether they return to us or pursue other opportunities, I want them to feel that their work mattered, that they grew and that they were part of something bigger,” says Lexie Seward.
On National Intern Day, we celebrate our interns’ hard work and the impact they have made during their summer with us. We’re proud to be a part of their journey and excited to see where their paths lead next.
Applications for our 2026 summer internship positions will be posted in the fall. Those interested can check out more information here.
